What Went Well and Even Better If - Preliminary Task
This is the Preliminary task we had to make for media as part as our course work which is based upon Continuity Editing.
WWW:We used continuity editing in our clips which is where it tells a story as though the movement hasn't stopped a good example of this in our work is when Michael was opening a door and it cut to a close up of his hand pushing the door then after cutting to Michael inside the classroom which shows effective use of continuity editing. Another good point is effective use of eye line match where we see Michael looking to the right and then cutting to a shot of Harry sitting on the chair, this is a good shot because it's creative and it tells you the full story of where Michael's attention is focused creating a clear shot and good use of editing. We then later see use of Shot Reverse Shot, this is when Michael and Harry are talking, I think this is a part of What Went Well because we can see clear communication and no jump cuts, and that the two characters are talking. It also is within the 180 degree rule, so that the shot doesn't confuse anyone who is watching the clip.
EBI: Firstly when watching the clip Michael is walking down the hall we see that he walks up towards the camera, then we cut to a mid-shot where he is about to open the door, however we can see that there is a reverse shot as it slightly looks like Michael has walked backwards to open the door, this can cause confusion to the audience to improve this we should cut the shot a little bit earlier. Also towards the end the shots are unfocused, which makes the clip look not as well presented, to improve this we should make sure the camera is fully focused before shooting. Lastly at the end of the clip we see that it suddenly cuts off, this is due to time running out, however if we had more time we could extend the clip so that it doesn't suddenly cut off and confuse the audience.
